Summer Holiday Business Greetings: Make them authentic

The past month I’ve caught myself thinking about summer destinations, getaways, untroubled moments and a break in business activity.

At the same I’ve realised that the mind and the body need to recuperate after a much challenging year with loads of adjustments and strenuous moments.

At some point most of us will experience this “glorious” time of switching off our laptop, put a temporary halt to our business ventures and finally sail away to our summer holiday destination. Before that we want to make sure that we send the relevant messages and emails to our colleagues and partners informing them that we will be indulging into a nice break.

And we should all agree that the “out of the office” automated message is not good enough if we want to establish and maintain a good rapport with our business associates.

Let’s explore some Dos and Don’ts in sending seasonal greetings in order to make sure that what you write is written in the correct manner.

Dos

Begin with your seasonal greeting. You can even state it on the email topic. This will let the recipients know that you are sending a holiday greeting. i.e. “Happy Summer Vacations”.

Express your appreciation and gratitude to the person you are writing to for your cooperation so far. State your eagerness to start fresh after your summer vacation. This will add a personal touch and make your message more genuine.

Keep it short and simple with a pinch of positivity and confidence about what will follow after the vacation is over.

Don’ts

Avoid long and very descriptive sentences regarding your summer holidays and destination. You need to think that the recipient may still have some work time and work obligations before they get on a summer break and in the worst case scenario they may not have any holiday leave. Empathy is the key.

Avoid mixing summer greetings with unfinished business. In case you need to get your point across or solve some pending business issues do it in a separate email before the greetings of course.

Don’t turn your holiday greeting into a chance to sell or persuade someone just because the context is “summerish”.

Here is a collection of happy summer holiday wishes that you can include in your emails or messages.
